May Phua was talent spotted from the New Paper New Face 1995 Contest Final. A fine gymnast, she completed her Diploma in Tourism Studies, and is a graduate from Shatec, an institute that specialises in Hotel and Tourism management.

Her debut role of a happy-go-lucky girl in the popular Chinese sitcom Don't Worry, Be Happy went well with the viewers and immediately earned her a fan following.

May has proven herself as an outstanding actress having acted in multiple roles ranging from a sweet and kind hotel manager in Season Of Love to a rebellious princess in the period drama Hero Of The Times.

The year 2000 gave May opportunities to challenge her acting skills when she was cast against regional artistes Jacqueline Wu Qian Lian and Cheung Chi Lam in The Tax Files and Dare To Strike respectively. Her performance in both series received much favourable comments. Shedding her innocent, sweet image, May showed audiences her dramatic range through her role as a villain in Brotherhood. Her hard work paid off when she bagged the Best Supporting Actress award at Star Awards 2008 for her superb performance as a rich widow who had great distrust for the opposite sex in Mars vs Venus.

Besides acting, May is also an excellent host. She was seen in hugely popular programmes like Battle Of The Best, Weekend Delight and the Taiwanese gameshow, Treasure Hunt as well as Wow Wow World, where she partnered local veteran artiste, Jack Neo, to travel across the regions looking for exotic dishes.
