As we gear up for the MTV EMAs this week in Germany, we take a look back at all of the MTV Music awards and round-up the 10 most shocking moments since they began…



MTV Video Music Awards 1992

Way back in 1992 when grunge and rock ruled the music scene Guns ‘N’ Roses front man Axl Rose slapped Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain for refusing to play at their party. Nirvana’s bassist Krist Noveoselic was still a little annoyed after this incident, so when Nirvana took to the stage he threw his guitar in the air which ended up hitting him in the face leaving him bruised, bloody and a little dazed. And if this wasn’t enough when they exited the stage Kurt Cobain spat on a piano which he though belonged to arch-nemesis Axl. It didn’t, it just so happened to belong to Elton John…
