The awards season hits up with the fresh release of the nomination list for the 32nd Hong Kong Film Awards. With the award ceremony set to be held on April 13, Emperor Motion Pictures won 29 nominations with six of its films in the running for the top honours, earning the title of the “Champion of Movie Companies”.

Hot favourite Aaron Kwok failed to make the list despite winning accolades for his performance in Cold War, while his co-star Tony Leung Ka-Fai (Cold War) will be competing against Tony Leung Chiu-Wai (The Silent War), Lau Ching-Wan (The Bullet Vanishes), Chapman To (Vulgaria) and Nick Cheung (Nightfall) for the Best Actor award.

Though Director Law Chi-leung is delighted about his self-directed film The Bullet Vanishes earning 12 nominations, he expressed that Nicholas Tse’s exclusion from the list is a “pity”.

With two of her works, The Great Magician and The Silent War, nominated for the Best Actress award, Chinese actress Zhou Xun commented that she will be “fighting against herself” and thanked the judging panel for the recognition.

TVB actress Elanne Kwong’s nomination for the Best Actress award became a talking point as the actress will be vying for the prestigious prize for the very first time. The Love Lifting star, who is up against veterans Zhou Xun, Miriam Yeung and Sammi Cheng, could not hide her excitement after learning about the good news.
