The last time we spoke to Michelle Chong and asked how she'd imagine her 3 Peas in a Pod lead actress would look beside her two male leads at the auditions, she told us the girls were all made to stand in between two larger-than-life-size posters of the boys. Thankfully though, she will no longer have to superimpose their faces side by side for visual imagery and can finally retire her larger-than-life poster board, as the director's three peas finally gathered together on the same stage for the first time yesterday.
It may have been Calvin Chen, Alexander Lee Eusebio (Xander) and Jae Liew's first official meeting yesterday - Calvin only arrived in Singapore three hours before the press conference - but the trio looked at ease with each other, clearly hitting it off from the get-go. No awkward vibes or animosity between them, just plenty of chatter and light-hearted bantering.
Channelling a sophomore look with his casual jeans and sweater getup, Fahrenheit member Calvin brushed away talks of feeling stressed by his debut movie project, and instead expressed his excitement to work alongside an international crew for the first time. Speaking in a mixture of English and Mandarin, he said, "This movie really reminds me of my schooling days in Vancouver and I will try really hard to get into it [his role as Perry]."
His co-stars, Xander and Jae, are also stepping up on their own prep work to get into character. While Jae spends her free afternoons people-watching on the streets of Orchard Road, Xander's been given a trickier task of bulking up. The former U-KISS leader lost too much weight (and fat) from his attempts to beef up for the role that he now has to gain them back by "eating as much as possible" before filming begins, says Michelle at the press conference.
Aside from Xander's weight-loss-regime-gone-wrong, read on for more about the quartet's university and road trip memories, first impressions of each other, and other life-changing experiences they had.
