Colleagues, friends and family gathered to bid their final goodbyes to the veteran actor
The ceremony rites ended at around 1:30, followed by the start of a procession led by the hearse. Lin Mei Jiao, Chen Bifeng, Lin Wen Hai, and Nick Shen, who were dressed in black robes, followed closely behind. The coffin, the eight pallbearers, and Wenyong’s wife and two children trailed behind.
Fifteen minutes after departing the Teochew funeral palour, the pallbearers loaded the coffin onto the car. Hundreds of colleagues, friends, and members of the public swept forth and filled the grounds of the Teochew funeral palour
During his lifetime, Huang Wenyong considered MediaCorp his second home. Out of respect for the late artiste, the company arranged for the hearse to circle the TV station before heading to Bright Hill Monastery.
At around 2:15 pm, hordes of MediaCorp staff, including senior-level Management staff such as MediaCorp CEO Shaun Seow and Deputy CEO Chang Long Jong trickled outside to await the hearse. The atmosphere was particularly sombre as thunderous applause welcomed the procession.
Shaun, who was also at the wake yesterday afternoon, praised the actor for his dedication to acting. “I’ve had the chance to interact with Wenyong on several occasions since I became the CEO of MediaCorp. He once suggested raising the standards of local drama productions during a meeting I had with the artistes. Wenyong felt that actors should contribute to development of a story; it shouldn’t be the sole responsibility of the scriptwriter and director’s.”
“The death of Huang Wenyong is not only MediaCorp’s loss; it is also a loss for the TV industry and TV viewers.”
