Time check: It’s 11.45pm and the entire stadium of 10,000 fervent concertgoers are on their feet, boogying and cheering to A-Mei’s ‘Bad Boy’. The crowd’s outpouring of enthusiasm was as if the Taiwanese diva’s concert had just begun -- never mind that the concert was coming to a close and the last train was set to depart a little after 12 midnight.
In disbelief at the crowd’s high-energy levels despite having sat or stood through a 3.5hour long concert, A-Mei marveled, “I love Singapore! Thanks for staying and going crazy with me!”
And that’s not all. As she performed her last song for the night, ‘San Tian San Ye’, the singer was left flabbergasted when her cheeky remark of “partying through the night” with the audience was met with boisterous cheers of approval from the crowd. Clearly no one wanted to call it a night, yet.
A crowd-favourite and an acclaimed Mandopop diva, while much ado has been said about the 40-year-old’s recent weight gain—as seen in her last public performance at Taipei’s 2013 countdown concert, A-Mei’s still got it going on and strong. Yes, she may be sporting a slightly fuller and rounder figure than before (when she visited Singapore in Jan 2012 for her concert) but the singer still looks and sounds as AMeiZING as we remember her to be. And if anything, last night she proved: size does not matter, as with gender – when it comes to love.
