The Heavenly King was in town to promote his latest movie Cold War.

After dazzling over 9,000 fans at his solo concert earlier this year, Aaron Kwok returned to our sunny shores for a whirlwind promotional trip of his latest movie, Cold War. Directors Sunny Luk and Longman Leung were also in town for the movie gala, which took place last night at GV VivoCity.

The film is being tipped as Hong Kong's biggest polic force-centric film in the past decade. The Heavenly King declared that acting in Cold War was “a dream come true," as he was able to cross swords with veteran actor Tony Leung Ka-fai on-screen for the very first time.

“We have always been compared to one another; I have won awards which he was also nominated for and he has also triumphed over me as well. I think the directors felt my desire to be able to act alongside Tony and finally granted my wish!" Aaron quipped, drawing laughter from the crowd assembled for the gala screening.

Tony and Aaron play rival Deputy Commissioners in the flick and are engaged in numerous scenes together, most of which are highly emotional. Additional star power is added to the film with Andy Lau guest starring role. Newer faces have also emerged in the show, with Aarif Rahman and Eddie Peng joining the star-studded cast – which also includes Gordon Lam, Chin Kar-lok and Charlie Yeung.

Having broken box office records in China and Hong Kong, Aaron urged the crowd to replicate their success in Singapore. “I won’t compare our film to others’; we set our own goals and are proud to say that we have surpassed them,” the 47-year-old shared.

Sunny and Longman added, “We don’t have such large theatres in Hong Kong anymore, so it’s very humbling to see all of you gathered here today to watch our movie.” The two are first-timers at directing, but have been in the movie industry for decades.

Cold War opens in cinemas today, rated PG-13.
