Francis Ng fined $10k for New Year scuffle
After initially denying guilt, actor Francis Ng accepted the lesser charge of assault causing bodily harm
Hong Kong actor Francis Ng was fined HK$10,000 (S$1,800) by the court on Wednesday after pleading guilty to the lesser charge of assault causing bodily harm in relation to a New Year's Day incident at a Kowloon bakery.
The judge was satisfied that the 48-year-old did not deliberately harm the victim, who needed stitches to his left ear.
On 1 Jan this year, Francis' Singaporean wife Ong Lay Pheng got into a scuffle with a shop assistant that later embroiled the Golden Horse-winning actor.
He had previously denied assault.
The judge noted that the famed character actor was protecting his wife, but added that as a public figure, Francis should know how to control his emotions, and violence has no place in a civilized society.
The actor refused to talk to the hordes of reporters after the sentencing.
