Baby No. 3 on the way for Gurmit Singh
Singapore’s funnyman Gurmit Singh is “so looking forward” to becoming a proud father of three come end-March.
While sharing the good news in a phone interview with xinmsn on Friday, the 47-year-old local TV star and comedian confirmed that he and his stay-at-home wife Melissa, 42, are expecting another girl. They are currently parents to a son and a daughter: Elliot, 11, and Gabrielle, 15.
When asked if they’ve always been preparing for a third child, Gurmit said “it came in phases” – they had wanted to have another one once but “we got busy so we didn’t have time”.
“And now we’ve got a third one, we’re very happy and looking forward to it,” the family man enthused.
How did the kids react?
“They’re over the moon about it,” Gurmit laughed. “They’ve always been waiting for another baby so now they’re very excited; they can’t wait for the baby to come out.”
And it looks like Mrs Gurmit, who’s currently “doing well” in her third month of pregnancy, will have some extra pairs of helping hands at home when the new baby arrives.
The proud father shared, “They (Gabrielle and Elliot) are already talking about helping out and how they can be involved in the baby’s life – taking care of nappy changes, bottle feeding, carrying the baby, loving it...”
With baby number three coming up, it’s also likely we won’t be seeing as much of the veteran actor on TV for a while. Gurmit, who’s now hosting the fourth season of “My Makan Places: Lost & Found”, revealed he’s already thinking of taking on less jobs and reworking his schedules so that he can spend more time at home “not just for my new baby but also for my wife and for my other two kids”.
A baby step to converting into a full-time stay-home daddy, perhaps?
Gurmit said he’s had the same thought “every day”.
“Ever since my first daughter was born, I wanted to retire and become a full-time dad,” he shared, before adding with a chuckle, “But then the hospital bill came, and I was thrown back into reality.”
