Crazy Christmas 2012: A ‘Crazylicious’ blast from the past

In the words of actress-comedian Judee Tan, one of the multi-talented cast member of Singapore’s annual theatrical Christmas concert, “Christmas is very much an ‘Ang Moh’ holiday” to some Singaporeans because not everyone can relate to it.
Yet, blend in a pop of creatively crafted Singaporean brand of jokes and amusing tongue-in-cheek skits – ingeniously performed by local theatre luminaries like Selena Tan, Hossan Leong, Adrian Pang, George Chan, Robin Goh, Judee Tan and Michaela Therese; it becomes a delightful Crazy Christmas!
Directed by Selena Tan and George Chan of Dream Academy, Crazy Christmas 2012’s theme of “Silver Screen meets Silver Bell” saw a return of silver screen legends such as Rita Hayworth, Charlie Chaplin, Gene Kelly and Marilyn Monroe.
Audience were transported back to the golden magical era of Hollywood, with George Chan’s appearance as Gene Kelly performing ‘Singing in the Rain’, plus Selena Tan’s delightful guise as screen siren-sex bomb Marilyn Monroe in her famous dress, belting out the equally famous ‘Happy Birthday, Mr President’ tune.
Adrian’s Dorothy [of The Wizard of Oz] skit, together with Judee, Karen and Selena, gets a hilariously distinctive local feel with their superb comic sense. Without giving anything away, let's just say you have to keep your eyes and ears peeled to the brilliant characterisations with spot-on spoofs that will leave you in laughing fits.
Another act which drew much laughs was Judee’s solo segment where she reprised her role as the adorable Dr Teo Chew Moi (TCM), a character made popular at The Hossan Leong (THLS) in 2010.
The amusingly nervous, giggly and squeaky-voiced Chinese physician kept the laughs going with her debunking of Christmas celebrations and politically incorrect sayings.

An unexpected yet heart-warming performance came from three young stars – Rachel Quek, 16 (Karen Tan’s daughter) and Xander Pang, 12 and Zach Pang, 13 (sons of Adrian Pang). The trio, together with their parents, performed a “punk rock” Christmas number that was definitely a joy to watch.
And the icing on the cake came when the main cast delivered a cappella style parody of movie theme songs medley – Titanic, Jaws, Rocky, Mission Impossible and more. Make sure you don’t leave your seat to avoid missing out on the fun, it sure was a hoot!
