Daffy Tong inherits $16 million from Leslie Cheung
Late Hong Kong superstar Leslie Cheung has reportedly left behind an inheritance of about HK$1 billion (approximately S$16 million) to his lover, Daffy Tong. In addition to the financial inheritance, Daffy has inherited property investments from the late actor, who committed suicide a decade ago.
According to sources, Daffy handled all the investments for Leslie in the past. It was also said that Leslie always gave his full support for Daffy, who was a banker, and even retired from showbiz in order to accompany him.
As this year marks Leslie’s 10-year death anniversary, a memoir will be published tomorrow, where Daffy hopes to share some of his precious memories of Leslie with his fans.
Daffy will be revealing three intimate photos of him and Leslie, as well as an English piece hand written in 1973 by Leslie.
He also expressed how much he misses Leslie a few days ago through famous Song dynasty poet Su Shi’s poem, which talks about a husband mourning his wife’s death.
In related news, Leslie’s former manager Florence Chan revealed the content of the last conversations between her and Leslie moments before his suicide ten years ago.
She recalled that Leslie was supposed to have a meal with her that day, but she suddenly received a phone call from him before the meeting. Leslie told her over the phone, “I want to take this chance to observe Hong Kong carefully.”
Sensing that something was amiss as she pondered over his strange remark, Florence rushed to their agreed meeting place, the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.
On her way, she received a second – also the last – phone call from the 46-year-old Hong Kong entertainment legend. He said, “Wait for me at the main entrance of the hotel. I will be there very soon.”
Her heart sank when she heard a loud bang coming from the direction of the hotel and she immediately tried to contact him, but to no avail.
Florence will also be revealing Leslie’s final message, which she has kept secret since his death, during an upcoming concert to commemorate his passing.
“It is something that Leslie wanted to share with everyone, something about himself,” she said.
The memorial concert will be held in Hong Kong on March 31, the eve of the 10th anniversary of Leslie’s death.
