Dayo Wong edges out Julian Cheung in Best Actor Category
It was a series of shock waves for audience at last night’s 2013 TVB Anniversary Awards.
First, hot favourite Julian Cheung was edged out by Dayo Wong in the Best Actor Category. Next, black horse Kristal Tin bagged not just the “Best Actress” award but also that of the “Most Popular Female Lead”.
The results were unexpected because audience was given a say in the Best Acting categories under the revised judging system; they determined 50 per cent of the result, just like the judges.
With sky-rocketing popularity given his role as a cool pilot in Triumph in the Skies II, it was shocking to see Julian miss out on the Best Actor award, especially when the 42-year-old was rumoured to have traded two acting roles for the title. Instead, Dayo Wong bagged the award with his role in Bounty Lady.
But Julian did not go home empty-handed and won the “Most Popular Male Lead” award with some 77,000 votes.
The female category continued sending rounds of shock waves: first time nominee Kristine Tin walked away with the honour with her role as “Yiu Man-ying” in Brother’s Keeper. Overwhelmed by her win, Kristine gave an emotional speech on stage, thanking her family and other nominees as she choke up in tears.
She surprised the audience even more when she also bagged the “Most Popular Female Lead” award.
The “Best Supporting Male” and “Best Supporting Female” awards went to Benz Hui of Bounty Lady and Elena Kong of Triumph in the Skies II respectively.
