Here to study: A look at Asian celebrities who have decided to stay in Singapore for their kids
Over the past decade, ‘study mamas (or papas)’ – a Chinese term used to describe parents moving to Singapore so that their children can undergo a much-coveted Singapore education - have become a popular trend among PRCs, Koreans, Japanese and even the Americans.
Celebrities have also caught on to the trend. Recently, Hong Kong star Cecilia Cheung relocated to Singapore to give her two sons (aged six and three) a ‘Singapore education’, following in the footsteps of other well-known stars such as Francis Ng and Jet Li, who have also enrolled their children in Singapore schools. Just this Wednesday, Taiwanese diva Vivian Hsu also married her Singapore-based beau and said she will be living here, and is the newest star-studded addition to our island’s growing list of famous sons and daughters in-law.
Here, we look at the prominent people who have come to Singapore for their children, what’s in it for them, and who else should come here to stay.
