Fans of Hugh Jackman – or anyone who appreciates a delectably toned body – will be in for a treat when they catch X-Men: Days of Future Past in cinemas starting next week.

In one scene, Hugh’s character Wolverine is seen waking up next to a woman after being transported decades into the past. When he gets out of bed, it’s revealed that he is buck naked, and the camera lingers on his entire exposed back (including his derriere) for a good few seconds.

The Australian actor, who was here in town for the Southeast Asian premiere of the superhero ensemble flick with co-stars Peter Dinklage and Fan Bing Bing, revealed to reporters at a press conference yesterday morning that he timed his physical prep period carefully in order to be in tip-top shape for the shoot on May 21st last year.

“It’s like preparing for a marathon: you have to be ready on the day itself,” he analysed, before sharing a hilarious anecdote about how the date for his stripped-down sequence was nearly postponed by two weeks. The change in schedule irked him because he was “so ready” to flaunt his frame on the appointed date, and he offered the assistant director a “deal”.

“I said, ‘You can do whatever scene you want on May 21st, but I will be naked. It can be on the plane, it can be in the White House; I don’t care: I will have my clothes off and that’s the only day I will have them off’,” Hugh re-enacted, drawing laughter from the floor.

Unfortunately, maintaining such a fine physique requires tons of time and effort even for the famously and seemingly perpetually ripped Hugh, who confessed, “It’s all gone now”. (That, however, didn’t stop him from posting a topless shot of himself chilling in the hotel pool on Instagram shortly before the media meet.)
