Ilo Ilo bags two nominations at the Asian Film Awards
Singapore’s well-acclaimed film Ilo Ilo receives two nominations at the 8th Asian Film Awards: Anthony Chen for the Best Director and Malaysian actress Yeo Yann Yann for Best Supporting Actress, following her win as the Best Supporting Actress at both the Taiwan Golden Horse Awards and Asia Pacific Film Festival.
Popular Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi in nominated again for the Best Actress award, after being crowned champion six times at various award ceremonies for her stunning performance in The Grandmaster. Also running for Best Actress is Hong Kong-based actress Paw Hee-ching who starred in Rigor Mortis, the mostly likely candidate that may possibly defeat Ziyi.
In a close fight, vying for Best Actor are film heavyweights Tony Leung, Lee Kangsheng, Japanese star Masaharu Fukuyama and Korean actor Song Kang-ho.
Taiwanese film Stray Dogs, which clinched the Best Director and Best Actor awards at the Golden Horse Awards is nominated in the Best Film, Best Director and Best Actor categories this time. It will be a close fight between Stray Dogs and Chinese blockbuster The Grandmaster, which has a total of 10 nominations.
The award ceremony will be held on March 27 in Macau this year, and leading the judging panel is film director Peter Chan. The panel also includes well-known director Donnie Yen.
