Hong Kong media mogul Run Run Shaw has died at age 107, according to a statement from his company Television Broadcast Limited (TVB). Shaw passed away at home peacefully alongside his family on Tuesday morning in Hong Kong, China, 7 January 2013. Shaw was born in 1907 in Zhejiang province near Shanghai, China. At 19, he entered the entertainment industry with his brother in Singapore to distribute silent films. After successfully building their own silent films and a chain of cinema theatres in Southeast Asia, Shaw moved to Hong Kong in 1957 and set up the Shaw Brothers studio during Hong Kong film market`s golden era, enlarging the influence of Chinese movie. Later, he switched focus to small screens and founded TVB in 1967, remaining executive chairman there until 2011. In his later years, Shaw was more concentrated on philanthropy, donating schools, hospitals and charity organizations.
