Give it to Jennifer Lopez to throw a sizzling performance – never mind that she was an hour late for her scheduled 8pm show; never mind that singing was not her forte, with a somewhat shaky and tepid start that I’d like to attribute to acoustic problems. But boy, can she dance!
And perhaps that’s why the tour is called “JLo Dance Again World Tour”. Sassy and sultry dance moves, Jennifer, accompanied by solid cast of back-up dancers that included current boyfriend Casper Smart, wasted no time in throwing herself into energetic dance routines, wowing the 15,000-strong crowd last night at The Meadow, Gardens by the Bay, as part of the Asian leg of her first ever world tour.
Fans, evidently unfazed by the wet weather or muddy fields, braved the earlier rain in ponchos and umbrellas as they waited for their idol. Thunderous cheers greeted the sexy superstar as she kicked off the night with her 2004 hit, “Get Right” dressed in a skin-coloured diamante bodysuit.
“Singapore!” she hollered to the fans, and surprised them with “Wo ai ni!” (‘I love you’ in Mandarin). Fervent fans lapped it up excitedly as Jennifer stood on stage – not having to say more - soaking up the cheers and atmosphere.
The 90 minutes show featured an enchanting set list of her early dance hits such as “Love Won’t Cost A Thing”, “Waiting For Tonight”, “Jenny From The Block” and “Let’s Get Loud”. Flawless dance moves aside, the former American Idol judge had the audience absorbed in a variety of eye-catching, colourful costumes that showed off her toned abs, famous curves, and that equally-famous insured derriere.
The Latina star, indisputably one of Hollywood’s favourite big-bottomed celebrities way before Kim Kardashian and Rihanna came along, didn’t disappoint as she gamely shook her booty in a nude bodysuit-short dress emblazoned with red flames.
