Joey Wong to make showbiz comeback
According to media reports, ex-Taiwanese actress Joey Wong will return to the limelight for the first time since her formal retirement from the entertainment industry 11 years ago. The 46-year-old is tipped to make her showbiz comeback in May through endorsement projects in Hong Kong.
Sources revealed that two reknowned Hong Kong jewellery and cosmetics brands have approached Macau business magnate Stanley Ho’s daughter Pansy Ho’s PR firm to invite Joey to front endorsement deals worth NT$7.6 million (approximately S$320,000).
It was also reported that if the public responds positively to these projects, Joey is keen to negotiate for a few movie deals to stage a full-fledged comeback following the endorsement projects.
When asked to comment on the speculations, the company’s person-in-charge verified that he has indeed spoken to Joey who expressed interest about returning to Hong Kong, though she has yet to decide on the brand she hopes to work with. He declined to reveal the exact figure of the deals, citing “trade secret” as reason.
Joey rose to fame in Asia after being cast as a beautiful ghost “Nie Xiao Qian” in A Chinese Ghost Story in 1987. Last year, the movie had special screenings in the Chinese cinemas which was well-received, proving her sustained popularity over the years.
The former actress moved to Canada in recent years and remained out of contact even from her celebrity friends.
