Local actress Julie Tan was given the golden opportunity to fly to Seoul for her maiden hosting gig, ChU reality-variety show A Date with K-Pop Stars, last year. The experience, according to the 21-year-old, was absolutely nerve-wrecking as she had to meet and befriend several Hallyu idols within two weeks.
Co-produced by MediaCorp and Korea’s reknowned entertainment company CJ E&M, A Date with K-Pop Stars features the hottest spots in Seoul, including celebrities’ favourite restaurants and traditional Korean sauna (also called jjimjilbang), and the latest fashion trends in the land of kimchi.
During a press conference held at Korea Plaza last Thursday, Julie shared about her priceless encounters with artistes such as Dal Shabet, Rainbow, Teen Top, A-Jax, Jewelry, ZE:A’s Kwanghee, Clara, Moon Hee Joon and more.
One of the biggest challenges faced by Julie was having to switch between different languages during filming. “I had to speak in Mandarin when facing the camera, but I communicated with the artistes via English and a little Korean,” she explained.
Nevertheless, the trip also saw some exceptionally rewarding moments for the starlet. Not only was Julie thrilled to be attending the same event (Style Icon Awards) as BIGBANG leader G-Dragon – whom she “respects greatly” – the actress even had first row access during his performance.
“I was at an arm’s distance from him! I finally know why he is so successful after watching him perform,” Julie told xinmsn. “His stage presence is amazing and ‘one of a kind’. Many people try to imitate him but they just can’t replicate his style.”
