Kevin Tsai diagnosed with nerve disorder
Shortly after Kevin Tsai was announced as the host and judge for the 50th Golden Horse Awards, the multi-hyphenate was diagnosed with Bell’s palsy, a condition where one loses the ability to control their facial muscles.
According to the doctor, the host’s facial paralysis was caused by exhaustion and poor immunity. Kevin, who wore a face mask to cover up his sagging right cheek, first discovered signs of this illness when he had speech problems and his appetite deteriorated. Despite doctor’s advice to have plenty of rest at home, the 51-year-old workaholic returned to host variety show, Here ComesKang Xi on Monday.
Having sought treatment two weeks ago, a hopeful Kevin told reporters that he is doing fine. “I’m on the road to recovery and my doctor estimated that I’ll recover around mid-October. Thank you everyone for the concern!” he exclaimed.
When asked if his condition would affect his work for the Golden Horse Awards, Kevin’s assistant replied, “There shouldn’t be any problem as critiquing movies is his forte.”
Adding on, Kevin’s assistant teased that it is a refreshing idea to wear a face mask to the award ceremony in November.
