Korean star Kim Soo Hyun has been invited to join the remake of 1991 crime movie Once A Thief along with Chinese actor Huang Xiaoming and Michelle Chen, but remains undecided on the project as he is planning to begin his army service in summer next year.

Directed by John Woo, the original Once A Thief starred Chow Yun Fat, Leslie Cheung and Cherie Chung as a band of orphans who were raised to become high-end art thieves. The movie was a massive hit and became a classic in the heist genre. In particular, the scene where Cherie and a wheelchair-ridden Yun Fat shared a dance is now an iconic scene in the movie industry.

Recently, the producer of the film, Terence Chang, expressed his wishes to film a remake of the movie. Rumour has it that he hopes to persuade Soo Hyun, Michelle – who is also known as “Little Cherie” for her resemblance to the actress –  and Xiaoming to join the production, and start filming in March or April next year.

When asked to confirm the news, Terence expressed that the story for the remake is slightly different from the original, and filming is expected to be done in France. He also revealed that he has spoken with Soo Hyun’s manager, but due to the latter’s impending military service, it is currently unknown if he will be available to act in the movie.
