Leon Lai confirms new movie role
Hailed as one of Hong Kong’s four heavenly kings, Leon Lai stayed out of the limelight after separating with ex-wife, Gaile Lok. At a charity event organised by UNICEF in Hong Kong yesterday, the singer-turned-actor announced his comeback with Chinese movie, Yang Gui Fei.
Earlier, Leon was reported to have gone for a secret costume fitting in China. While speaking to reporters, the 46-year-old confirmed the rumours and graciously revealed his upcoming plans.
“We will be heading to China for three months of filming,” said Leon, who is playing the role of Emperor Ming of the Tang dynasty.
According to past media reports, preparations for this movie began four years ago but was halted due to a change in director and some cast members. Although no concrete explanations were given for the changes, it was said that Leon’s role had supposedly belonged to American-Chinese actor John Lone.
When asked about playing “second choice” to John, the seasoned actor cleverly retorted, “It doesn’t matter even if I am the tenth choice as I’ve never thought of myself as a backup. There are always choices in life and while I have the rights to choose others, they should also have it.
