Max Zhang almost went blind
Hong Kong action star Max Zhang saw a rise in his popularity and more job opportunities after his successful portrayal of Ma San in movie hit, The Grandmaster, earlier this year.
The hardworking actor was offered a role in new Wong Fei Hung movie franchise, Rise of the Legend and began filming since August. On Monday night, Max was sent to the hospital for a stitch after his right eye was cut by a sharp knife during a spar with another action co-star.
According to media reports, the father of two injured himself while filming a fighting scene with another martial arts master where they had to dodge each other’s moves quickly.
Max was hospitalised for a night and only returned home on Tuesday morning. During a phone interview, the 39-year-old revealed, “The doctor said I could have turned blind if the cut was 1cm deeper. He advised me to have plenty of rest now and to sleep in a sitting position to ease the swelling.”
When asked about Ada’ reaction to his injury, he told reporters frankly that he did not inform her immediately as he did not want her to panic.
Ada, on the other hand, expressed her heartache, “His right eye is heavily bruised and every time I look at it, it breaks my heart. I understand that he doesn’t wants me to be worried, but I can’t help it when I think about the inflammation and a possible scar when the wound heals.”
However, she added that it was a relief that Max did not lose his sight.
