One of the most highly rated rookie groups from South Korea is in town for the very first time, to perform at an exclusive showcase for the local L.O.Λ.E (official fanclub) organised by KpopGaga. Though NU'EST staged their debut only in March this year, the boys expressed their hopes for bigger achievements during the press conference held at St. James Powerhouse yesterday.
Despite an encouraging debut, the five boys do not consider themselves successful yet and are looking at making greater waves in the entertainment industry. Group leader JR and main vocalist Baekho hope to embark on a large-scale global concert tour in the near future while lead vocalist Minhyun is aiming for a grand prize on Korea's most prestigious award shows.
"After five years, NU'EST will be at the top [of the Hallyu Wave]," the 17-year-old leader said confidently.
Nevertheless, the group maintains that they still have much to learn and that they look up to current Hallyu leaders TVXQ and Big Bang for inspiration. In addition, they also raved about the powerful dances and charismatic stage presence of their seniors in the industry.
Under the same management company (Pledis Entertainment) as idols such as Son Dambi and After School, some of the members starred in the music videos of their labelmates during their pre-debut days. The boys mentioned their interest in taking on acting roles, if given the opportunity. As drama addicts themselves, they love watching TV in the dorm during their free time and shared their current obsession with Korean dramas Nice Guy and Reply 1997.
