We’d be lying if we said we weren’t half-expecting Justin Bieber to show up fashionably late to the F1 closing gig last night. After all, he’s been making quite a number of headlines recently for his infamous concert delays.
However, we were pleasantly surprised (and utterly relieved) when, at approximately 8:05pm, a timer counting down from 10 minutes appeared on the LCD screens hanging above the massive stage (the show was scheduled to start at 8:15pm). This prompted waves of not-so-surprising screams from the crowd of Beliebers, who continued to cheer after each minute.
Finally, after a few flashy effects, their idol emerged on stage, clad in all white with his eyes hidden behind dark shades. He silently made his way to the end of the extended stage, shading his eyes to have a closer look at his adoring fans before bellowing “What’s up, Singapore?” to amplified fan girl roars and delving into his first performance.
In addition to fresher tracks like ‘Beauty and a Beat’ and ‘Boyfriend’, Justin treated concertgoers to older favourites like ‘Eenie Meenie’, ‘One Time’ and ‘Baby’. We admit it was a little strange seeing the beefed up, spiky-haired, all-grown-up Justin revisit hits he churned out when he still had his famous schoolboy mop and prepubescent voice, but they were guilty pleasure treats nonetheless.
