The TVB actor is seeking compensation for the loss caused by his lawsuit with Kenny Wong after losing contract opportunities with famous film director Wang Jing

Hong Kong actor Oscar Leung is counter-suing restaurant owner Kenny Wong after losing at least a million Hong Kong dollars' (approximately over S$150,000) worth of potential contract deals after the latter sued him for slander.

Oscar's move references the recent dispute between Kenny and 23 Hong Kong artistes, where Kenny claimed that he has a video footage of the artistes taking drugs in his restaurant. In response to the allegations, Oscar said that ‘somebody’ is paranoid and likes to imagine that he is being threatened. Kenny responded by suing Oscar for slander, asking for compensation.

Thanks in part to the controversy, Oscar failed to secure 10 contract deals which amount to over a million Hong Kong dollars (approximately over S$150,000) with renowned Hong Kong film director Wong Jing. Director Wong initially favoured Oscar after he won the TVB best improvement male artiste award, but eventually dismissed all plans of working with him out of the concern that the lawsuit would affect his performance.

After discussions with his lawyer, Oscar has filed a lawsuit against Kenny, seeking compensation of up to HK$10 million (approximately S$1.5 million) for damage caused to his image.

This move was widely supported by fellow Hong Kong artistes and his company TVB.

Oscar’s manager said that although the Liewei’s work would continue as per normal, it is hard to estimate the long-term damages inflicted on him.
