Peter Yu: From actor to cabbie
After a long absence from the local entertainment scene, former MediaCorp actor Peter Yu recently agreed to appear on Ch8’s infotainment program Tuesday Report, to share about his life and to inspire others who might be going through a rough time.
Left in dire straits after his divorce with Quan Yi Fong in 2009, the 45-year-old now has a changed perception on money, values and life.
Back then, Peter faced severe finance problems and he could barely support himself, not to mention afford paying alimony to his former wife, Yi Fong. Even though he tried to keep in touch with his ex-wife and daughter, he felt “too ashamed” to meet them. “It’s hard to contact them as they’ve changed their numbers. I think about my daughter a lot,” he sighed.
Meeting the right people might change one’s life forever. And that happened to Peter.
The ex-actor crossed paths with his current wife two years ago and the couple tied the knot in October 2011. During their dating days, Peter was introduced to a church by his then-girlfriend’s mother, an incident which left significant changes in his life.
No longer the guy who speeds, drinks and behaves recklessly, Peter is now an honest taxi driver and a father to his 10-month-old boy (with his second wife). He works regular hours from 6am to 6pm every day, and he is contented with his S$150 daily earning.
