“Princesses”, “Generals”, “Rats” and more: we take a look at acting groups from around the entertainment scene
None of us are strangers to boy or girl bands – from The Jackson 5 in the 70s to Destiny’s Child in the 90s to the countless Korean Wave ensembles of today, many musical groups have proven that there is power in numbers.
This grouping method extends to the world of acting as well. A couple of months ago, MediaCorp put a bunch of hot young male artistes together and christened them “the 8 Dukes”. But the charming octet is just the latest addition to a long history of acting troupes from Singapore and beyond.
These eight dashing lads were handpicked from a crop of other hopefuls due to their rising stars and idol statuses. They’ve been doing pretty well on their own (most are proud owners of various awards), but the establishment of this group signals a new era in their careers and serves as an official acknowledgement of their burgeoning futures in the industry (no pressure, guys).
Star power: 5/10. There’s no doubting their potential and popularity, but with the exception of Romeo and Desmond, most of the boys still have a long way to go before obtaining official A-list status.
