The competition for this year’s Star Awards 2013 Top 20 Most Popular Male and Female artistes heats up following the recent influx of new actors in the TV station. It’s like a game of musical chairs as new and younger artistes such as Romeo Tan, Julie Tan, Tracy Lee and Ethen Lee Teng - who tout strong fan bases - find their way to the coveted Top 20 list.
At the press conference held in Marina Bay Sands hotel, these first-time nominees shared their initial disbelief and excitement in separate interviews with xinmsn.
Hot rising star Romeo, who is also running for Favourite Male Character (for It Takes Two) and Best Supporting Actor (for Joys of Life), called his Top 20 nomination a good reaffirmation of his work performance in 2012. “It’s as if there is glimmer of hope before me right now. It’s a form of recharge - although I may not win the award, it’s still an acknowledgement.”
Aside from having a bountiful year in drama projects (Unriddle 2, Don’t Stop Believin’, Of Love and Hidden Charms and It Takes Two), Romeo also attributed his success today to his group of loyal fans and told us, “I think I owe them a big favour.”
He later added, “I know it’d be hard for them to call and vote because most of them are students. I know you girls are really young and don’t have much savings so please don’t feel bad about it, as long as you have the heart to support me [that’s enough].”
