Celebrity altruism: Some celebrities devote much of their time to volunteerism
Teaching disadvantaged kids, building roads and raising funds in developing countries – you name it, these are some of the volunteering stints many local and international celebs have taken up, not simply to voice their cause but also add to their portfolio.
One telling sign of those who really feel for what they advocate: They never stop volunteering; it’s not simply a one-off effort. They are also not averse to getting their hands dirty, and on a regular basis, spend up to weeks in Third World countries to volunteer.
For instance, local artiste Thomas Ong recently brought fellow celebrities Terence Cao, Aileen Tan and Constance Song to Cambodia to teach underprivileged kids, and it’s not the first time he’s brought his friends to spread love to the needy.
Other altruistic artistes include Korean star Song Hye Kyo, who frequently helps out in animal shelters, and Hong Kong actress Michelle Yim, who volunteers regularly in developing countries like Africa.
