Stefanie Sun on childbirth: It was agonising and painful
Stefanie Sun is basking in the joy of motherhood. After giving birth to her son on Oct 30, the local songbird shared her childbirth and confinement experiences through her spokesperson yesterday.
The first-time mummy chose to deliver her son via natural birth and was in labour for more than 20 hours. To prepare herself for the arrival of her first child, Stefanie researched extensively on it and panicked when her son did not share the same reactions with most babies.
She added that childbirth was an "agonising and miserable" experience that was further exacerbated by a tailbone injury she sustained previously.
Currently doing confinement the traditional way, the 34-year-old would dab rice wine over her finger joints each time her hands get in contact with water.
She explained that this method is to prevent De Quervain syndrome (an inflammation of the inner wrist and tendons of the thumb), which is a common injury among mothers due to the repeated action of cradling the baby.
Stefanie also added that her mother is following the "Singapore style of confinement" and would prepare stewed chicken soup for her. The singer's mother also intends to give out red eggs and cakes to commemorate her grandson's one-month-old birthday in end-November.
Although Stefanie has already given birth, she joked that her stomach "still looks four months pregnant".
