Takeshi Kaneshiro no longer a heartthrob?
Following a prolonged absence from the entertainment scene (his last project was 2011’s Wu Xia), Takeshi Kaneshiro was spotted filming an airline commercial in Paris recently.
From the photos published in media reports, the 40-year-old appeared to have lost his charming good looks of yesteryear. He was spotted with a double chin and a rounder face, causing sharp-tongued netizens to label him an uncle. “Even age takes its toll on such a handsome chap,” said a netizen.
Fans have spoken up in defence of their half-Japanese, half-Taiwanese idol by attributing his current look to a “mature image”, claiming that the heartthrob appeared to be in bad shape due to his 5am call time for the shoot.
Takeshi’s manager also responded to the criticisms yesterday. She clarified that the artiste still maintains a rigorous beauty regime and takes part in outdoor activities regularly.
“The body condition is naturally different as we age. You can’t expect him to maintain his 20-year-old condition forever,” said his manager, who also revealed that the actor will begin filming for Hong Kong director John Woo’s new film, The Crossing, next month.
The Crossing also features Chinese stars Huang Xiao Ming, Zhang Ziyi and Korean actress Song Hye-kyo.
