The funny!
The Hobbit goes for a lighter tone from the outset, which is absolutely in keeping with the Tolkien source material. The Hobbit was written as a children’s book and The Lord Of The Rings as a more grown-up expansion of that universe. Certainly there’s a gravity and a solemnity about LOTR that isn’t there in The Hobbit. And the new movie, though it stumbles on some comic miscues, does contain some nice laughs.

Winner: The Hobbit
