Another previously unknown artist who has YouTube to thank for helping him achieve global fame in 2012 is 32-year-old Belgian-Australian singer-songwriter Wouter "Wally" De Backer, otherwise known as Gotye. His understated yet instantly memorable acoustic-pop single 'Somebody That I Used To Know' became a global hit in 2012 thanks in part to the viral appeal of the song's video, which shows Gotye and featured singer Kimbra merging with a painted backdrop through some very clever stop motion animation.
