Tiffany Leong takes a break from showbiz for health reasons
MediaCorp actress Tiffany Leong just announced her decision to take a break from showbiz to deal with her current health problems. She was discovered to be down with MEN (multiple endocrine neoplasia) syndrome after she wrapped up production for Mandarin drama Radio Rhapsody in Malaysia.
Tiffany had inherited this genetic disease (a problem that arises when the tumour suppressor gene fails) from her mother, who was found to be suffering from it last year. Tiffany’s mother received immediate treatment and underwent surgery to remove the tumour last year.
Citing health reasons, Tiffany will put all jobs and projects on hold to receive necessary treatment for her illness. In a press statement released to the media, she shared that she will be taking a break to prevent the tumour in her body from undergoing multiple mutations which might lead to further complications.
The 28-year-old actress, who was last seen in The Quarters (as Mao Dawan) last year, will take this time to undergo surgery and let her body recuperate. The former model seeks everyone’s support and cooperation during this trying period.
“Dear friends, members of the media, sponsors and fans, I will not be able to join in any activities for the time being. Please do not be worried for me. I know there will be many challenges and difficulties ahead of me and I will face this battle bravely,” she said.
In her statement, Tiffany shared that she was “initially affected” to learn that she was suffering from this disease. However, the actress has picked herself up and will persevere in getting her health back in the pink in order to “do more dramas for everyone.”
She continued: “I have a lot of loved ones by my side and I will not disappoint everyone. I will be leaving [showbiz] temporarily and I hope to be back soon. I will work hard!”
The actress turned down all interview requests when contacted at press time.
