Tony Leung drowns his sorrow after Hong Kong Film Awards loss
The cast and crew of Hong Kong blockbuster film The Grandmaster, which swept 12 trophies at the recent 33rd Hong Kong Film Awards, held a celebratory party at Carina Lau’s restaurant in Tsim Sha Tsui after the awards ceremony on Sunday.
The Grandmaster’s lead actor Tony Leung, who lost the “Best Actor” award to Nick Cheung (Unbeatable), looked downcast when he showed up at the after-party. His good friend, actor Wu Yan Ye, and director Wong Kar-wai took turns to keep him company throughout the night, while Carina was preoccupied with entertaining other guests.
Meanwhile, Zhang Ziyi was in high spirits after being crowned “Best Actress” for the ninth time. Besides enjoying her late dinner and drinks, she was also seen posing for pictures with her trophy.
Hong Kong actress-model Angelababy also attended the after-party that night. She was especially well-mannered when she was introduced to Andrew Lau and Kar-wai by her manager, even bowing several times to the reknowned directors.
Angelababy, however, has been harshly criticised after pictures of her lighting a cigarette in the VIP room were published. The model, known for her “goddess” image, was caught smoking in public in 2008. Although she claimed to have picked up the habit “for fun” and promised to quit, netizens berated her for failing to keep her word.
