While vocal Twilight fans disrupted filming on the New York set of 2010's Remember Me, not many of them remembered to see it in theatres. That Robert Pattinson romantic drama sank at the box office, while Water for Elephants, his romantic drama with Reese Witherspoon, was criticized for the lack of chemistry between its leads.

Later, his turn as playboy Georges Duroy in an adaptation of 1885 French novel Bel Ami (2012) was critically panned, and that same year he played a frustrated billionaire riding (and - shock, horror - having sex) through New York in his limousine in an unlikely collaboration with Canadian auteur David Cronenbourg. The film received mixed reviews and Twihards had a hard time wrapping their minds around the weird world of the controversial director, though we took a perverse delight in seeing them try.
