If you see Joanne Peh, don’t ask how she feels she will fare at this year’s Star Awards.
“I think I get this question every year I’m nominated, and to be honest, I never know what answer to give!” the likeable actress admitted with a chuckle during our chat following the C.L.I.F 2 press conference. Together with nine of her C.L.I.F 2 co-stars, Joanne was at the Senior Police Officers’ Mess clubhouse last week to promote the upcoming MediaCorp police drama.
In this sequel to the highly popular C.L.I.F, Joanne reprises her role as spunky police station team leader Leow Xinyi, who has to deal with new challenges when she’s transferred to the Special Victim’s Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department.
Nominated in Star Awards 2013’s Best Actress category for her role in Pillow Talk, the former Miss Singapore Universe 2002 finalist may have clinched the title twice (The Little Nyonya in 2009 and A Tale of 2 Cities in 2012) but she’s still going in with “no expectations as usual”.
“At the end of the day, my job is to give my best to every role that I commit to. Whether or not it’s award-winning is not something I can anticipate; all I do is act.”
One worry she did confess to, however, is her outfit for the ceremony. “My stylist has been trying to book dresses since last year!” she laughed. “He’s so excited about the Star Awards.”
So will Joanne, known to have a penchant for sexy, revealing outfits (remember the cleavage-baring pieces from last two years’ events, and the saucy cutout gown in 2010?), steal the spotlight in a skin-showing frock again? Or will she tread a more modest and demure route this year?
“I can’t say for sure what I’m going to wear at this point in time. I’m going to have to go through fittings to see which one looks the best on me, and who knows? Maybe something I really love right now may not be as beautiful to me in a few months’ time.”
At the end of her interview, as if dropping a few hints on her outfit this year, she quickly added, “I’m going to have to start working out!”
