Madonna has apologised for using a racial slur.
The 'Girl Gone Wild' hitmaker insisted she isn't racist and didn't mean to offend anyone when she posted a photograph of her son Rocco Ritchie, 13, boxing with the caption, ''No one messes with Dirty Soap! Mama said knock you out! #disni**a'' on Friday (17.01.14).
In a statement to UsMagazine.com, the 55-year-old star said: ''I am sorry if I offended anyone with my use of the N word on Instagram. It was not meant as a racial slur.. I am not a racist.''
She added: ''There's no way to defend the use of the word. It was all about intention.. It was used as a term of endearment toward my son who is white. I appreciate that it's a provocative word and I apologise if it gave people the wrong impression. Forgive me.''
The controversial singer issued the public apology after the incident attracted backlash from her fans.
She removed the original caption after a few minutes and instead wrote: ''Ok let me start this again #get off my d**k haters!''
Madonna has three other children, Lourdes, 17, and adopted daughter, Mercy, eight, and adopted son, David, eight, from Malawi.
The singer, who is currently on crutches, is expected to perform at the 56th annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles next Sunday (26.01.14).
