A rookie by the name of Ha Yeon Soo has been cast as B2ST Yong Jun Hyung's co-star for Mnet's Monstar.
New photos released by the producers show the two together during a poster shoot for the drama.
Ha Yeon Soo debuted as a cosmetics model, and most recently gathered attention for appearing in a commercial with Song Joong Ki.
In her first full-fledged acting role, Ha Yeon Soo will appear as Min Se Yi. She is a high school student who moved to Korea from New Zealand, and though she isn't interested in school or her studies, she feels happy whenever she sings. She is paired with idol Yoon Seol Chan (Yong Jun Hyung) and thus becomes the object of jealousy. She comes to join a band with him and gets involved in the incidents scattered throughout the story.
Director Kim Won Seok picked out Ha Yeon Soo himself following auditions for the drama.
He commented, "While holding auditions that featured idols who could act and sing as well as actors, my eyes fell on Ha Yeon Soo. I cast her with the thought that her fresh and unique aura, not found in any other actresses currently active, would go well with Min Se Yi. I'm looking forward to what charms this rookie will have to show through Monstar, as it seems she holds a mysterious, stylish and lovely image all at once."
Director Shin Hyung Gwan said, "Director Kim Won Seok previously brought attention to Song Joong Ki, Yoo Ah In and Park Yoo Chun through Sungkyunkwan Scandal. He's skilled at digging out hidden gems and drawing out their best, so you can look forward to Ha Yeon Soo and Monstar."
Kim Won Seok previously directed Sungkyunkwan Scandal and Cinderella's Sister.
Monstar is a music drama about how teenagers are healed through music. Filming will start late February, and its first episode will air early April.
UPDATE: This article has been edited on February 21, 2013 12:56 p.m. KST to reflect an error in the actress' name. Ha Yeon Soo is the name of the rookie actress, not Ha Soo Yeon as previously stated.
