The boys of South Korean sextet B.A.P – Bang Yong Guk, Him Chan, Dae Hyun, Young Jae, Jong Up and Zelo – have come a long way since their “alien warriors” days (characterised by their unified blonde locks) in 2012.
This year, the group finally brought home the coveted first-place trophies at popular music programmes Show Champion, Music Bank and Inkigayo, for title track “1004” from their first full-length album First Sensibility, signalling B.A.P’s rise in the highly competitive K-pop industry.
Now globetrotting idols, the lads embarked on B.A.P Live on Earth 2014 Continent Tour in March and have since performed for BABYz (B.A.P’s fandom name) in numerous cities including New York, Paris, London and Sydney.
Barely a year since their first solo gig in Singapore, B.A.P returned to The Star Theatre on Saturday (May 31), where local fans were blown away by the boys’ marked improvement on stage.
As it was their fourth time here, lead singer Dae Hyun unabashedly called Singapore their “second home” while Young Jae praised the fans for being “still so nice and friendly” – well, our ears buzzed from the deafening screams throughout the two-hour show.
Lucky for us, we were also given a “live” (albeit short) preview of their upcoming release “Where Are You? What Are You Doing?” which has a distinctively different sound from B.A.P’s usual style.
From dapper costumes to uniformed dance moves and entertaining concert gimmicks, the boys showed why they are BABYz’s “1004” (which means “Angel” in Korean).
