Would Katy Hudson or Liu Fu Rong enjoy the same degree of success like Katy Perry and Andy Lau?
Jackie Chan
Chan Kong-sang, who? Jackie Chan, widely known as Chen Long , went through several name changes before he was cast in Hand of Death in 1976, where his name was changed to Chen Long. His name, which literally translates to “to become the dragon”, was meant to draw parallels between him and martial arts legend Bruce Lee.
Prior to his name change, Jackie appeared in small roles and dabbled in other jobs such as a construction worker. Lady Luck came knocking more than a decade after his name change, when he had his cinematic breakthrough in Snake in the Eagle's Shadow. To date, he remains one of the most successful Asian actors, having made a name for himself even in Hollywood.
The verdict: Jackie has indeed become the dragon, tearing down the stereotypical Asian sidekick role in Hollywood, headlining blockbusters such as hit Hollywood film-series Rush Hour. To this day, he remains a highly respected veteran in the industry, despite his announcement of his retirement from the action industry.
