Chinese forest named after K-pop star
Singer Kim Jang-hoon will have a forest named after him in China.
The honor was bestowed on the singer-activist who recently returned home after planting 12,000 trees in just two days around Inner Mongolia and Ningxia, northwest China.
Kim’s agency said that after a four-day visit to China, the singer returned home yesterday.
He was there to raise awareness of desertification and his visit, although planned, shocked the personnel of the Ningxia Desertification Control and Ecological Protection Project.
The director of the committee said that this was the first time an entertainer had actually made a visit to the area.
“We didn’t think he’d actually come, but he did and we are so thankful,” the head of the organization said.
To show their gratitude, the committee members decided to name the new forest after Kim, the first time that a forest has been named after a person in Ningxia, according to the environmental protection body.
