K-drama sequels: hit or miss?

We take a look at k-drama sequels that live up to their hype and others that fall far, far behind

If you haven’t been living under a rock, you would have heard of just about the biggest news in K-drama land recently – Korean actress Lee Young Ae officially declined to star in MBC’s Jewel in the Palace (Dae Jang Geum) sequel last week. The show, which featured Young Ae playing a young girl who becomes the first royal physician (Seo Jang Geum) in the Joseon dynasty, was a monster hit in its heydays, and was eventually exported to 91 countries.

Young Ae’s decision to reject the lead role in MBC’s sequel is unsurprising, honestly speaking, considering how most K-drama sequels fail to live up to their predecessors’ hype and tend to tank - horribly. Here, we look at some of these sequels that had us forsaking sleep to go on a drama marathon till five in the morning (and on a work day too!), and some that were overrated and just plain disappointing.
