Rise of the Guardians
Starring the voices of: Chris Pine, Alec Baldwin, Hugh Jackman, Isla Fisher, Jude Law
Directed by: Peter Ramsey
Why watch: It’s the League of Extraordinary Mythological Figures!
The low-down: Santa Claus (Alec Baldwin), The Easter Bunny (Hugh Jackman), The Sandman, The Tooth Fairy (Isla Fisher) and Jack Frost (Chris Pine) team up to battle bogeyman Pitch (Jude Law).
The buzz: 2012 — or what’s left of it — is definitely the year of superstar gatherings, from ’80s action titans (The Expendables 2) to Marvel comic-book icons (The Avengers) to video game villains (the upcoming Wreck-It Ralph). Now, meet the latest SuperHeavy ensemble based on The Guardians of Childhood book series by William Joyce. “In my mind, Santa was always bigger than life and had an element of James Bond to him,” says Joyce. And Santa, or North, as he’s called in the anime, is the group’s Nick (St Nick?) Fury, a bad-ass toymaker and sword expert. “They might not be fit, toned, gleaming action heroes,” says Alec Baldwin, “but they all have a bit of an edge to them. They’re not all sweet or syrupy.” In other words: Kids, Christmas, as you know it, will never be the same after Rise of the Guardians.
Opens: Nov 22

With all the heart and humour audiences expect from Walt Disney Animation Studios, "Big Hero 6" is an action-packed comedy-adventure about robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada, who learns to harness his genius—thanks to his brilliant brother Tadashi and their like-minded friends: adrenaline junkie Go Go Tamago, neatnik Wasabi, chemistry whiz Honey Lemon and fanboy Fred. When a devastating turn of events catapults them into the midst of a dangerous plot unfolding in the streets of San Fransokyo, Hiro turns to his closest companion - a robot named Baymax - and transforms the group into a band of high-tech heroes determined to solve the mystery. Inspired by the Marvel comics of the same name, and featuring comic-book style action, "Big Hero 6" is directed by Don Hall ("Winnie the Pooh") and Chris Williams ("Bolt"), and produced by Roy Conli ("Tangled"). Disney's Big Hero 6 opens in Singapore cinemas on 13 November 2014.
