Christina Perri – A Very Merry Perri Christmas

The singer sets us in a festive mood with a soothing EP

Text: Sherman Yang

‘Something About December’ is an original Christmas song which fills you with warmth and hope. Drawing from personal inspirations from the Christmas’ spent with her family, the chorus speaks of evoking memories to keep your loved ones close by.

Originally sung by the Carpenters, ‘Merry Christmas Darling’ is Perri’s favourite Christmas song. She mentioned in an interview that it was emotional recording the track and that she cried during the first run-through of the song. The lyrics are about a special someone you wish was with you on Christmas; no wonder it made her shed some tears.

Perri’s brother, Nick, is featured on lead guitar in ‘Please Come Home For Christmas’. With a more blues feel, the song is the track which Perri shows off the power in her voice. It is a rare opportunity where we get to hear her belt some notes.

Perri’s stripped-down version of ‘Ave Maria’ is soothing. With just the guitar, cello and her angelic voice, the track relaxes and calms. This is a track which you can close your eyes to appreciate the beauty of Perri’s voice and to be thankful for everything this festive season.

The album closes with ‘Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas’. Perri previously released a snippet of the song on YouTube and received several requests for her to cover the entire version. Thus, Perri included it in the album for all the fans out there.

With an album comprising of slower heart-warming songs, Christina Perri stays true to her musical style delivering a beautiful festive album. The album contains five classic Christmas songs and one original track.
