Colbie Caillat – Christmas In The Sand

The American singer releases a mix of classic and new Christmas tunes

After years of listening to sultry and flirty versions of ‘Santa Baby’, Colbie Caillat manages to put so much innocence into the song that it is confusing. The overly happy feel of the song is completely disjoint from the lyrics of a woman who wants extravagant gifts.

At least with ‘Baby It’s Cold Outside’, there is some healthy ad-lib bantering with Gavin DeGraw. Their version of the classic Christmas duet is fun and bubbly (pun completely intended) and will definitely get you in the festive mood.

Title track ‘Christmas In The Sand’ is a fresh new tune from Caillat talking about Christmas in the tropics. Now there is finally a song we can relate to if we spend Christmas on the beach instead of all the songs about snow and the cold. The song does however have some cheekily disturbing lyrics about seeing Santa in his bathing suit.

What better way to close of the album than with ‘Auld Lang Syne’? The traditional folk song, mainly sung to celebrate the New Year, is the perfect ending to a Christmas album as we usher in the new year.

On the whole, the album has a fair number of perky tunes to get you into the festive mood despite some slower, soothing numbers which make you want to crawl into bed and wait for Santa.

With a fresh dose of new Christmas tracks and the classic Christmas songs we all love, Colbie Caillat’s new festive album is a nice way to get into the mood.
