Safe Haven Original Motion Picture
Text: Sherman Yang
From the movie Safe Haven, based off the Nicolas Sparks novel of the same name, the soundtrack is filled with tracks that will touch your hearts, filling you with many different emotions.
The album starts out with ‘We Both Know’, a lovely duet between Colbie Caillat and Gavin DeGraw. The two voices will touch your heart as you listen to them harmonise and serenade, “leading each other out of the dark”. If you loved Colbie’s duet with Jason Mraz, ‘Bubbly’, you will definitely love this track.
‘Keep Your Head Up’ is a strong motivational song which is empowering. The song advises us to keep our heads up and strive on no matter what happens. Howard recently won two BRIT Awards for British Breakthrough Act and British Solo Male Artist.
‘Heart's Content (Strings Mix)’ is another sweet sounding track about love by American singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile. It is fun and upbeat and would get you bobbing along.
The album also has the beautiful instrumental track by the film’s composer, Deborah Lurie. ‘Canoeing (Katie and Alex’s Theme)’ will soothe and calm your senses. It indeed gives you a floating feeling and will send you off into a happy dream.
American folk rock artiste Lissie performs a cover of Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Go Your Own Way’ to end the album. The song is about a complicated relationship and as the album begins with a love song, this closing track makes you wonder if they broke up at the end of the film.
With a soundtrack that beautifully paints a story, we hope the movie would be equally as good.
