Atletico Draw First Blood; Hazard Ban Remains
In Spanish football,
Atletico Madrid beat Seviya 2-1 at home in the King's Cup semi-final 1st leg.
In an ill-tempered match, all 3 goals came from the penalty spot in the 2nd half and 3 players were also sent off.
Atletico's Brazilian striker Diego Costa put away two spot-kicks, while Seviya's Alvaro Negredo also replied from the spot.
But it was the visitors who had Emir Spahic (spa-hitch) and Fernando Navarro sent off with Diego Godin red-carded for Atletico.
6 others were yellow-carded.
The winner of the tie will face either Barcelona or Real Madrid in the final.
That 1st leg match yesterday finished 1-all.
Onto English football,
Eden Hazard's ban for kicking a ball boy during Chelsea's League Cup semi-final against Swansea will remain at 3 matches.
This was after the Football Association decided against fresh disciplinary action.
Hazard was sent off for violent conduct after tussling with the ball boy, who refused to give him the ball.
The Belgian's red card brought an automatic 3-match suspension, but the English FA suggested this was "clearly insufficient" and looked at an additional charge.
They've since changed their minds, and Hazard will miss this weekend's trip to Newcastle after sitting out of Chelsea's last two matches.
