Fire at a Brazilian nightclub kills over 200
At least 233 people have died after a fire gutted a nightclub packed with students in southern Brazil.
Shocked survivors in the town of Santa Maria described a frantic rush to the exits as flames swept through the club.
Scores of people were trampled on and passed out from smoke inhalation.
Another 131 people were injured, and the death toll from the inferno has climbed rapidly.
This is because firefighters pulled bodies from the charred remains of the "Kiss" club, which was believed to have been packed with hundreds of revellers.
Brazil has meanwhile postponed an event dubbed "500 Days until World Cup-2014" set for today in the federal capital Brasilia.
